Former England footballer Alex Scott has emerged as the early favourite for the new series of Strictly Come Dancing after the line-up of celebrities was confirmed.

14 new faces have been confirmed by the BBC as the 2019 contenders and it is Scott, who now works as a pundit, who is favourite.

She already has some experience on the famous Strictly dance floor having won the 2018 Sport Relief version with Pasha Kovalev, but she won’t be able to be reunited with him as he quit the show earlier this year – but the Bookmakers have been quick to install her as favourite.

Indeed, it is the female celebs who are being favoured by the Bookmakers early on, as the most likely to succeed Stacey Dooley as champion in 2019.

Aside from favourite Scott, there is YouTube vlogger Saffron Baker – rated at 7/1 – whilst soap actresses Catherine Tyldesley and Emma Barton, of Coronation Street and Eastenders fame respectively – are each at 8/1.

The leading males are children’s TV presenter Karim Zeroual (10/1), Made in Chelsea star Jamie Laing (11/1) and Radio 1 DJ Dev Griffin – who is rated at 12/1.

American TV personality Michelle Visage, comedian Chris Ramsey, former England goalkeeper David James, Olympic rower James Cracknell and Viscountess Emma Weymouth are all priced at 16/1.

Following the confirmation of the 15 names, the early outsiders are legendary TV presenter Anneka Rice, Paralympian Will Bayley and BBC sports presenter Mike Bushell – all of whom are over 20/1.

OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton commented: “Strictly is back, now we have the celebrities confirmed and it looks a fantastic field, with a real spectrum of talent from footballers, to soap stars to social media personalities.

“And it is no surprise to see Alex Scott as favourite following her impressive display in 2018, and she is a popular figure on TV – so she has a lot of attributes that could see her go far, but YouTube star Saffron Barker is not far behind in the betting.

“Indeed, normally we have a huge outsider, but the biggest price this time around is BBC morning sports reporter Mike Bushell at 25/1.”
