Baby boy shocks Bookmakers and public

May 7th, 2019 Home, Media & Journalism, News & Events, Press Release, Showbiz

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced the arrival of their baby on Monday, but many were caught out as they announced it was a boy.

Bookmakers had been inundated prior to the birth with bets of the baby being a girl and some closed their markets on the sex, and the name market was dominated by girls.

But now it is all about the boys as Harry and Meghan welcomed the latest Royal Prince, an eighth great-grandchild for the Queen, to the family.

Harry confirmed the news outside the Royal residence in Windsor and confirmed the name would likely be confirmed by Wednesday.

OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton commented: “The Bookmakers will have been delighted when a boy was confirmed, saving them hundreds of thousands of pounds, all the money for months has been for girls and subsequently girls names.

“All the talk now is about the name of the new Prince, and Arthur had been the long-term favourite – but Alexander is the new favourite after a series of big bets since the birth.

“Alexander is now 3/1 ahead of James at 4/1 with Arthur out to 6/1 – and one other name to watch is Spencer, the name of Princess Diana’s brother – Harry’s Uncle, that has come into 8/1.”

Royal Baby name odds:
Alexander – 3/1
James – 4/1
Arthur – 6/1
Spencer – 8/1
Albert – 8/1
Philip – 12/1
Edward – 12/1
Oliver – 16/1
Charles – 20/1
Alfred – 20/1
Henry – 25/1
Frederick – 33/1
John – 33/1
Thomas – 33/1
