Kelvin Fletcher remains firmly odds-on to win Strictly Come Dancing 2019 – but Anton Du Beke can’t be ruled out capturing his first ever Glitter Ball trophy.
Du Beke – the only dancer to appear in every series, and himself a hugely popular figure on the show – has only ever made the final once, which was back in Series 13 when he finished 4th with Katie Derham.
But now Du Beke is breaking all his own records with Emma Barton – the Eastenders actress, who has not been seen as a favourite, but has been getting plenty of backing from the public.
Du Beke and Barton hit a brilliant 39 which is by far hist best ever score in his lengthy Strictly career – he has never had a dancer receive multiple tens before – but they did that last week with three.
Indeed looking at Anton’s history three of his best five dances, including the best two, have come with Emma.
|Anton Du Beke’s top-five Strictly scores||Partner||Score|
|American Smooth||Emma Barton||37|
|Viennese Waltz||Emma Barton||35|
Former Emmerdale Kelvin Fletcher remains is the clear favourite at 4/11, having been so since the first dance in Week One, whilst his long-term rival has been Children’s TV presenter Karim Zeroul – although he had to overcome being in the bottom two a couple of weeks ago.
Going into semi-final weekend Geordie comedian Chris Ramsey is firm favourite to this weekend, which would then leave a final three of Kelvin, Kerim and Emma.
OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton commented: “It is semi-final weekend, and already Kelvin looks very hard to beat – but the public are getting behind Emma and Anton, you can’t ignore that support and now the judges are too after their brilliant 39 last week.
“You can’t overlook the fact Anton and Emma have not yet been in the bottom-two, something only Kelvin and Oti have also avoided – which tells us she does have strong public support and you can’t overlook it.”
