General Election looming?

July 10th, 2018 Home, News & Events, Press Release

Could the United Kingdon be heading for a third General Election in as many years, the Bookmakers certainly think so.

Brexit talk is hogging the political landscape but the current Government lead by Prime Minister Theresa May are struggling to get their own MPs on board over the plans.

The Cabinet met at Chequers over the weekend to hammer out plans going ahead with Brexit, but instead of getting the backing she wanted – Mrs May has been stung by a series of high-profile resignations including Brexit minister David Davis and Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.

Now odds on a fresh the election have been slashed into 6/4.

“All eyes are on Theresa May at the moment, the pressure is mounting with all the big name departures from her Cabinet which she was not anticipating,” said OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton.

“Could this be the end of Theresa May? Well, she is not being backed to win the next election if there was one – with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn favourite to be the next Prime Minister ahead of Sajid Javid, who is the favourite to succeed Mrs May as leader of the Conservative Party.

“Boris Johnson had been favourite for the Conservative leadership, but interest in him has drifted and he is now out to 10/1.”
