Can England deliver on home soil?

May 29th, 2019 Home, Media & Journalism, News & Events, Press Release, Sport

England have never won the Cricket World Cup, but they are firm favourites to take the trophy this time around on home soil.

England play host to the ICC one-day tournament for the fifth time, but they have never taken advantage of playing at home – but Bookmakers think the 12th staging will see that change.

Eoin Morgan’s side come into the World Cup, ranked number one in the world and are priced as such at just 15/8.

India are considered second favourites at 3/1 ahead of defending champions Australia at 10/3.

As expected England’s players are also considered to be in the running for top Batsman and top Bowler during the tournament. India’s brilliant captain Virat Kohli is favourite to score the most runs at 8/1 but just behind him are England duo Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root at 10/1 and 11/1 respectively.

Again England are well represented in the top bowler market with Adil Rashid (14/1) and new boy Jofra Archer (16/1) big fancies, but it is another Indian who is favourite in the shape of the impressive Jasprit Bumrah.

OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton commented: “England are in great shape, and the Bookmakers are not taking them in as money has been very solid for the English for months.

“However, if India show up well early on we expect them to compete for favouritism as the tournament goes on.”
