Elise Christie backed to break Olympic hoodoo in China

Bookmakers believe Elise Christie will make it third time lucky in her quest for Olympic glory in 2022.

The short track speed skating superstar saw her hopes of landing her first ever Olympic medal disappear in Pyeongchang on Tuesday as she was disqualified from the heats of the 1,000m.

This came after she fell in both the final of 500m and 1,500m heats, meaning for a second Olympics running she will not medal – after she was disqualified from her three events at Sochi 2014.

The 27-year-old Scot – who is a multiple world champion – was quick to confirm she would be back to compete Beijing in four-years time.

“Elise Christie was Team GB’s biggest hope for a gold, and although they already have one through Lizzy Yarnold – a blank on the track is a big blow,” said OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton.

“However, despite the disappointment – the Bookmakers are taking few chances, she is already Evens to claim a medal and 9/4 for gold and four years out, it is easy to see her being odds-on again once the Winter Games come round again.”

Selected Elise Christie odds:
To win a medal at 2022 Games – Evens
To win a gold medal at 2022 Games – 9/4
