Both Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland were pleased with their World Cup play-off draws, but Bookmakers do no think either of them should be applying for their visas ahead of the finals in Russia, just yet.
The final four places available for European countries will be decided in early November via four two-legged play-offs.
The draw sees Northern Ireland take on Switzerland, and Republic of Ireland will face Denmark. That mean that they avoid the two most fancied nations in the draw, Italy and Croatia – who will take on Sweden and Greece respectively.
And whilst both the Northern Irish and Republic camps are pleased, the Bookmakers do not think either will be joining England at the finals next summer.
“Both the Northern Irish and Republic will be chuffed with their draws, they could not have been much better – but the Bookmakers are taking them on, both teams are odds-on not to qualify,” said OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton.
“We think the odds will be coming in as the Punters will surely be getting on both boys in green, but the value is certainly around both of them at the moment – you can get as much as 7/1 on both to qualify.”
World Cup Play-off odds:
4-7 Denmark, 5-4 Republic of Ireland
1-4 Switzerland, 5-2 Northern Ireland
1-3 Italy, 9-4 Sweden
1-4 Croatia, 5-2 Greece
Both Irish teams to qualify for the 2018 World Cup: 7-1
