Joe Sugg emerges as clear Strictly favourite

October 2nd, 2018 Home, Media & Journalism, News & Events, Press Release, Television

Social media star Joe Sugg is now firm favourite to win Strictly Come Dancing after a hugely impressive start to the show.

After completing the opening two dances, Sugg has gone from relative unknown and outsider, to flavour of the month on the Strictly set.

There was little surprise when Susannah Constantine became the first celebrity eliminated from 2018 field, but the other end is proving somewhat harder to predict.

Sugg is now the fourth different favourite to claim the Glitterball Trophy, after Ashley Roberts, Vick Hope and Stacey Dooley all headed the markets in the last few weeks.

Now Sugg – who OddsMoney picked out as the Dark Horse for the competition before the show started – is now 4/1 favourite, impressing hugely with his opening performances

“This isn’t a huge shock to us, with his near 20million social media following – Joe always had the fan base, and now he is backing that up with his performances and he is very likeable in general meaning it is no huge shock to see the public backing him strongly,” said OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton.

“Having began life at around 20/1 and bigger, he is now into 4/1 and Bookmakers are telling us that he is dominating this market at the moment.

“Faye Tozer is interesting, now into second favourite at 6/1 – she has been performing as good as anyone and she looks Joe’s biggest rival for sure.

“Ashley, Vick and Stacey have all done well, and are still very much in contention – but after the top-five, there isn’t a huge amount of interest in terms of betting.”
