Bookmakers are slashing their odds around Jose Mourinho’s future after Manchester United made their worst start to a season this century.
After going down 3-1 at West Ham on Saturday, that means this is United’s worst league start for 29-years, and only compounds the issue at Old Trafford.
A midweek defeat to Championship Derby County saw them go out of the Carabao Cup, whilst there is continuing – and well publicised issues – between Mourinho and record signing Paul Pogba, who has been told will never captain the club again.
Now Bookmakers and the Public are convinced that Mourinho will be gone before the end of the season and he is now odds on to be gone by New Year’s Day.
OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton commented: “We seem to be seeing Jose’s third season syndrome kicking in, but everything is pointing towards an early exit.
“The performances are dreadful and Bookmakers are taking no chances here, we are being told that the public are lumping on Mourinho leaving, and that is stood up by the fact he is just 1/3 to have left by the time we get to 2019.
“He is 1/5 to have left by the end of the season, and it is hard to see just how he can come back from this, with the Paul Pogba situation weighing heavy on United’s shoulders too – Mourinho is now unsurprisingly 4/11 to leave the club before the French midfielder.”
Selected Jose Mourinho odds:
To leave Manchester United before last game of this season’s Premier League – 1/5
To leave Manchester United by New Year’s Day 2019 – 1/3
