Strictly Come Dancing officially started at the weekend, but the 2018 series is already showing how wide open it is after Stacey Dooley became the third celebrity to become favourite to win the Glitter Ball Trophy.
The live shows may have only just begun, but the build up has been going for weeks – which has meant interest has been ongoing, and you have been able to back your favourite to win for over a month. Firstly it was Pussycats Dolls star Ashley Roberts, and then DJ Vick Hope – but not any more.
Reporter Dooley is now the favourite, although she only finished fifth on the opening scoreboard for her quick-step, but that has not stopped her odds coming into 4/1 after being around 6/1.
Roberts – who topped the charts as many thought she would remains second in the betting, with previous favourite Hope dropping to around 6/1.
The biggest mover in the market was social media personality Joe Sugg – who we picked out last week as the dark horse for the competition – who is now equal with Roberts at around 5/1, but just a couple of weeks ago he was 20/1.
OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton commented: “The first look at the dancers is always intriguing and there is nobody keeping a closer eye than the Bookmakers, they need to make sure they haven’t got any odds in the wrong place.
“There was clearly movement with Stacey Dooley as she became favourite, and it is no shock to see the public getting behind her, but we saw movement in the other direction with Vick Hope and Danny John-Jules eased out.
“However, the biggest mover is Joe Sugg – as we suggested in our feature last week, his social media support makes him a huge threat, and he also showed that he can dance. At 5/1 he is around a quarter of the odds he was just a couple of weeks ago.
“One dancer’s odds we are surprised hasn’t come in further is Steps star Faye Tozer – who had the joint highest score over the weekend, but she is still around 10/1 and looks very good value.”
