Ben Stokes is odds-on to win the Sports Personality of the Year award, following on from legendary all-rounders Ian Botham and Andrew Flintoff.
After inspiring Ashes displays, Botham won in 1981 and Flintoff to the honour in 2005.
Now Stokes has followed up on his brilliant World Cup display which saw England claim their first title, with his own piece of Ashes brilliance as he hit an unbeaten 135 to guide England to most the unlikeliest of victories in the third Test at Headingley.
Stokes display meant England chased down a target of 359 – their biggest run chase in history.
Now Bookmakers are convinced that Stokes is set to win the BBC award, whilst also landing a knighthood this year.
OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton commented: “2019 could not be going much better for Stokes, he is having a remarkable year and it is going to take something special for him not to win the Sports Personality award.
“Although we still have some big events to come, like the Rugby World Cup and World Athletics Championship – so it might not be as nailed on as we think.”
To Ben Stokes to be knighted in 2019 – 1-2
