Bookmakers have slashed the odds on comedian Seann Walsh being kicked off Strictly Come Dancing this weekend after he was caught kissing his married dance partner Katya Jones.
Walsh and Jones were caught in an embrace by he press – who published pictures, and both issued public apologies.
However, Walsh’s long-term girlfriend Rebecca Humphries reacted with her own statement confirming she had since broken up with the comedian because of his actions.
This has now brought into focus the Strictly Come Dancing ‘curse’ which has seen around half-a-dozen couples break up as a direct result of taking part in the show, whilst even more have been struck by romance whilst competing.
With Walsh and Jones just the latest to be effected by the curse, and we look back through the 16 series…and it actually began on the very first show with the winners Natasha Kaplinsky and Brendan Cole.
Both Kaplinsky and Cole denied they were seeing each other although but both split from their then partners during the show.
The curse didn’t actually kick-in properly until 2007 series 5 when Matt Di Angelo started seeing Flavia Cacace off-screen, but she was in a long-term relationship with fellow pro Vincent Simone.
However, the curse also hit Cacace for a second time just three years later as she started see another one of her celebrity partners Jimi Mistry – whilst still dating Di Angelo.
In 2008 and more rumours swept the show with Cole again linked with his partner Lisa Snowdon – but like before they denied this, despite pictures of the pair getting close.
2009 saw two romances blossomed and again there was more headlines with boxer Joe Calzaghe spitting from his long-term partner to date his dance partner Kristina Rihanoff.
That show also saw Hollyoaks actress Ali Bastian date her dance partner Brian Fortuna.
For the third year running in 2010 – another romance appeared from the show with winner Kara Tointon becoming engaged to Artem Chigvintsev, although both were single at the time.
In 2011 and again Artem was romantically linked with his partner, Holly Valance – but again that was denied, despite plenty of tabloid speculation.
After a relatively quiet couple of years and when the curse looked to have been banished – it struck as strong as ever in 2013! with two incidents.
The first was Kristina Rihanoff, again, this time as she began a relationship with former rugby international Ben Cohen – who split from his wife just a few weeks into the show.
Then there was also Rachel Riley – who became embroiled with her partner Pasha Kovalev, although they insisted their romance didn’t begin until after and that Riley’s marriage was already over.
After a relatively quiet 2014 – 2015 saw the curse strike again. This time it was actress Georgia May Foote who dumped her boyfriend Sean Ward to hook up with dance partner Giovanni Pernice.
2016 saw rumours about Louis Redknapp and her partner Kevin Clifton – again both denied anything, but both separated from their partners.
And last year, there were romances again – with Mollie King linked with her partner AJ Pritchard, whilst Gemma Atkinson became an item with Gorka Marquez – although he was not her dancing partner on the show.
Now into 2018 and the curse has struck again, but it remains to be seen how the public react.
Bookmakers are convinced that Seann will forced out – which will comes just after he and Katya performed a brilliant Paso Doble. which saw them finish 5th on the leaderboard – doubling their previous score.
However, coming off the back of the controversy he has seen his odds go from 8/1 to be next out to 15/8 favourite.
OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton commented: “It is all change in the next to be out market, and it is all seemingly down to the Strictly ‘Curse’ which has struck again.
“Seann has split with his girlfriend off the back of his kiss with Katya and it is safe to say all eyes are going to be on the pair this weekend, but Bookmakers certainly don’t see it as a positive.
“His performance last week was brilliant, and he was the 5th highest scorer and he was not even in the thinking to got this week, with Katie Piper the firm favourite – but now she could very well be saved due to Seann’s indiscretions.
“Indeed some Bookmakers have even started taking bets on the two of them not taking part this weekend, and Katya being replaced because of what happened, although that is seen as drastic and a long shot at 20/1.”
