Seriously – they\u2019re that important to your matched betting career. The last thing you want is for your accounts to be closed, restricted or \u2018gubbed\u2019.<\/p>\n

Top tips to avoid being gubbed:<\/h2>\n

– Stick to what you know<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Stick to well-known or high profile events. Premier League, Champions League, Masters Golf, Grand National. (Remember – that obscure Russian 2nd Division football match with the team\u2019s whose names you can\u2019t pronounce may just catch the bookmaker\u2019s eye.<\/p>\n

– Show your mug<\/h4>\n

You stand to make a small loss by doing this, but you\u2019ll be making your account look more like that of a mug punter, which is really who the bookies want as customers. To do this, regularly place a bet on your favourite sport or team – laying it off, of course.<\/p>\n

– Change things up<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Don\u2019t always bet the lowest qualifying amount. Notorious gubber, BetVictor, offers a ‘\u00a330 free bet when you place your first \u00a310 bet’. As matched bettors, we\u2019d usually deposit and bet \u00a310 to get our \u00a330 free bet. However, information suggests this could spark a trigger with this particular bookmaker. By depositing and betting a different amount – maybe \u00a320 or \u00a330 – we might be able to stay under the radar and keep our account from suspicion.<\/p>\n

– Timing is everything<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Try and place your qualifying bets on the day of the offer, ideally just before the event starts. This helps give the impression that you\u2019ve just found the offer and it wasn\u2019t on a \u2018to do\u2019 list.<\/p>\n

– Put yourself about a bit<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Always think, \u2018what would a bookmaker think of this bet\u2019? For instance, always betting on the closest match might draw attention to a betting pattern. Maybe look for a match lower down on the OddsMatcher at times.<\/p>\n

Remember: even if you\u2019re super careful, you might still see your accounts restricted. Sometimes, there\u2019s no rhyme nor reason to gubbings – but don\u2019t get disheartened.<\/p>\n
