Donald Trump odds-on to beat Impeachment and Democrats

History is being made in America as Donald Trump becomes only the third president in history to face an impeachment trial following allegations that he acted improperly ahead of his re-election bid this year. The issue is based around Trump’s possible Democratic opponent in the election later this year Joe Biden. Trump is accused of asking Ukraine to dig up information on Biden and his son Hunter, or he would withhold military aid worth $400million – that has already been granted to them by Congress. The Democratic party claim this is an obvious abuse of power, as a president cannot use his position for personal political gain. He is also accused of obstructing Congress during their inquiry. Trump is the first ever Republican to be impeached, although Richard Nixon was due to face them before being the only ever president to resign following the Watergate Scandal in 1974. Now Trump is facing the trial in the Senate after being impeached by the House of Representatives. The two before him Andrew Johnson in 1868 and Bill Clinton in 1998, were both acquitted and were not removed from office. Despite the big trial and the American public seemingly not happy, there is little chance of Trump being removed from office – at least not until the election as the Republicans control the Senate. Bookmakers don’t see anyway in which Trump is forced out and he is 1/50 not to be convicted by the Senate, indeed it is 1/3 that not a single Republican Senator votes against him. And looking further ahead to the election, Trump’s chances have barely taken a knock as he is odds-on at 8/11 to win a second term – ahead of Joe Biden at 9/2 and Bernie Sanders at 6/1.
