Let’s meet the team…this time, it’s Alex’s turn. For those of you who don’t know Alex, he looks after the Marketing department. His main job is to make sure you know how you could make a profit from matched betting with OddsMonkey.

Hi Alex! Got time for a few questions?

Whereabouts are you from?

I’m originally from County Durham but lived in Manchester for a few years, as well as Stoke-on-Trent. I missed following my team (Sunderland) more than anything else about moving away, so eventually moved back to the area.

What did you do before joining OddsMonkey?

After graduating with a degree in Journalism, my first marketing role was an SEO position for a small agency down in Staffordshire before moving back up to the North East for a new digital marketing role with an agency in Chester-le-Street.

When did you start matched betting?

It was roughly around 2012 while I was still a student and looking for some extra beer money. I was already very familiar with regular betting but not exactly successful…so when I heard about matched betting and guaranteed profits I was hooked.

How did you come about joining OddsMonkey?

After nearly 10 years with marketing agencies I was keen to move “client side”, so when an opportunity with OddsMonkey (a company I was already very familiar with) appeared I jumped at the chance.

Do you have any other ventures?

Nothing else you would class as a side hustle at the moment but I used to do a lot of freelance content writing for various businesses.

What is your favourite part of your job?

It’s a great feeling to promote a product that you genuinely believe in and the feedback from OddsMonkey members about what they’ve spent their profits on is always great to see.

Where do you see matched betting in the next 10 years?

As long as bookmakers exist, there’s always going to be value to extract. It’s true that some of the sign up offers aren’t as big these days but with new bookmakers seemingly cropping up every day there are going to be plenty of opportunities to make money going forward.

What would you say to someone who is yet to start matched betting?

Just do it! It can seem daunting at first but our Free Trial has been designed for total beginners, so take your time to read and digest everything before moving on to your first offer. Our support team will always be on hand to help and remember there’s no such thing as a stupid question, we were all beginners at one point.

What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies?

I’ve always been a big fan of sports following Sunderland and Durham CCC throughout their respective seasons whenever I can. I also like to keep fit these days, with weight lifting as my favourite hobby but I’m also training for my first marathon this October before a 2nd charity MMA fight next March.
