Conservatives heading for majority General Election win, say Bookies

The Conservatives are going into December’s General Election as odds-on favourites not only to win but to secure a majority. Prime Minister Boris Johnson feels he has had no option but to ask the nation to go to the Polls for fourth time this decade – this is only the third time in British history this has happened, with it taking place previously in the 1830s and 1950s. And a December General Election is in itself very unusual, as this will be only the fifth ever with the last happening nearly 100 years ago in 1923.
Year Date Prime Minister after election Governing Party Leader who won most votes Outcome
1868 10 Dec 1868 William Ewart Gladstone Liberal William Ewart Gladstone Winner formed government
1900 3 Dec 1900 The Marquess of Salisbury (Arthur Balfour) Conservative The Marquess of Salisbury (Arthur Balfour) Winner formed government
1918 14 Dec 1918 David Lloyd George Coalition (Liberal/Conservatives) Bonar Law (Conservatives) Winner did not form government
1923 6 Dec 1923 Ramsay McDonald Coalition (Labour/Liberal) Stanley Baldwin (Conservatives) Winner did not form government
Bookmakers already had the Conservatives as firm favourites, but now as the December 12th date was confirmed – the odds were cut further as steady money came in for the Prime Minister and his party. And it was not just for the outright win, but the Tories are also now odds-on to take an overall majority. OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton commented: “After Labour received the assurances they wanted over a No-Deal Brexit not being an option, it is full steam ahead for the first General Election in nearly a century. “The last was in 1923 when Ramsay McDonald formed the first ever Labour Government, despite the fact the Conservatives under Stanley Baldwin won – could we see Jeremy Corbyn into Downing Street – Bookmakers don’t see it happening. “But recent elections have told us nothing, if not to expect the unexpected – the EU Referendum vote, Donald Trump winning in America…don’t back against anything in this one. “And what about an outside winner? How about Nigel Farage guiding the Brexit Party to victory at 40/1! “Although the Bookmakers are somewhat certain that The Conservatives and Boris Johnson are set for the win, at 1/10 that is 90% probability.” Next UK General Election Winner Conservative – 1/10 Labour – 7/1 Liberal Democrats – 30/1 The Brexit Party – 40/1 Green Party – 300/1 UKIP – 500/1 Next UK General Election Overall Majority Conservative Majority – 4/5 No Overall Majority – Evens Labour Majority – 20/1 Liberal Democrat Majority – 50/1 The Brexit Party Majority – 50/1 Green Party Majority – 300/1 UKIP Majority – 300/1 *Odds correct at time of writing Spokesman Peter Watton is available for further comment or one-on-one interviews on this subject or anything connected with a betting market – for more information please contact [email protected]  You can also check out all our latest Press Releases  – which you are free to use
