The Grand National is in real danger of being postponed with Bookmakers stating it is odds-on for the biggest race in the world not to go ahead because of the Coronavirus outbreak.
The Aintree showcase is due to go ahead in little over a month, a matter of weeks after the Cheltenham Festival – which is going ahead.
However, with the Coronavirus epidemic there is a real danger that a number of big events – will not be able to proceed.
Bookmakers have now made it odds-on that the National meeting will not go ahead – although it remains to be seen if authorities would look at running behind closed doors, like a number of events across Europe are doing.
It is 8/13 – just over 60% probability that the National meeting does not happen, which could be an even bigger blow to organisers in 2020 as Tiger Roll could make history by being the first ever horse to win it three years in-a-row.
OddsMonkey spokesman Peter Watton commented: “The Grand National is in doubt because of the Coronavirus and Bookmakers do not see it going ahead.
“More than a quarter of a million is bet on the Grand National – the most of any one race so whilst we all have our fingers crossed it looks like we may have to wait for the big one.
“And we can’t forget the Tiger Roll factor – he could make history this year as he looks for the three-peat. Not even the great Red Rum achieved that and it would be a huge shame if we missed out on that.”
